Albuquerque has always had an incredible and passionate anime community. We see it at local meetups, the amazing cosplay scene, and in the crowded aisles of our shops and theaters every time there is a major release. This has stretch far back to the days of Suncoast Video, and for too long, local fans have been treated as an afterthought by the anime convention scene.
We have watched out-of-state corporations swoop in New Mexico, drop a generic “con-in-a-box”, and leave the second the weekend ends. They are happy to take our money, but they don’t try to know our community, our vibe, or anything else that makes the 505 unique. Even worse, we have all been burned by disastrous attempts like Anime NM, events that promised the world, collapsed, and ran off with the empty promises and table fees.
We decided we had seen enough. Albuquerque deserves better. That is why we are building Nichijou Con, a brand-new anime convention coming to Albuquerque in Spring 2027.
The word nichijou translates to “everyday life.” We chose this name because we believe fandom shouldn’t just be a massive, overwhelming corporate spectacle you visit once a year. It should feel like home. It should be a natural extension of our everyday community, elevated into an extraordinary weekend.
Nichijou Con is built entirely for locals, by locals. We are a team of Albuquerque organizers, stores, and industry professionals with 10 years of collective experience who live here, work here, and love this community. Our goal is simple: to create a fun, safe, and welcoming space where you can celebrate your favorite things alongside the people who matter most.
We are focusing heavily on what makes the convention experience meaningful:
- A massive artist alley and vendor hall that highlights talented New Mexican creatives and vendors.
- Interactive panels and fan-programming that celebrate your favorite series, gaming, and pop culture.
- Experiences and activities that you can enjoy with new and old friends alike.
This is not a corporate cash grab. This is a love letter to the 505. We want Nichijou Con to be a place where you can walk through the doors, immediately feel like you belong, and leave with a collection of new friends’ Discord tags.
We are just getting started, and we want you to build this with us. Over the next few months, we will be dropping updates about venue selection, dates, artist applications, volunteer opportunities, and more!
